I have a 1987 Remington 870 magnum Wingmaster. The unusual part is that Wingmaster is on the right side of the receiver. This 870 has a 18 in barrel and looks more like something police would have. I called Remington and the only thing they could say its 1987 according to the serial number. Could anyone shed some lite on this thanks.

First of all, you posted your question in the "Pre - 1898" category.
However, to answer your question, any barrel that will "fit" an 870 (within gauge designation) can be used on an 870. And, since there were many, many variations of barrels made for the 870s........what you describe is not unusual at all.
