721 722 725 dates of mfg
Some of the B models have the letter B stamped or engraved after the model # on the receiver. You can veiw a pic of a B model with a high comb stock at http://www.randgfirearms.com ( I think it's still there)
Thanks GO
Nice to see a few 60's made transition guns. I have only seen 8-9 of them ever. Owned two, a 222 and the 264 that had the ring in the chamber.
Kind of wierd that the 721-722-725 run was only about 13-14 years. Although they didn't really die off. They Evolved into the 700's.
Compare the Winchester M70 and its father the M54, and grandfather Mauser. The 54 started in the 20's and the 70 evolved from it in 1935. Now sadly there is the end of the Winchester 70 line. Maybe it is only "for now".

721 Manufacture date
I have a 721 with a custom stock. The dealer I bought it from said the collector he got it from indicated it was done by Pachmayr Gun Works in LA. The stock is a dark figured American Walnut with rosewood forend tip (angled) and rosewood grip cap both with wood spacers and Monte Carlo style cheekpiece very much like a Weatherby styling with flattened forend. 14 inch lop to Pachmayr White Line recoil pad. Jeweled bolt. Checkering at about 24-26 lpi but not wrap around. Trigger guard assembly is stock.
The coding is: B YY [January 1952]
Numbering is 225xxx
If anyone has info about Pachmayr's custom stock work in the early 1950s it would be much appreciated. I located an informative article on Pachmayr's LA store: Al Berhnsohn, "The Lo-Down on Pachmayr Gun Works Inc. How Frank Pachmayr Runs His Business" in The Shooting Industry, April 1964.

Thanks PR. They are edited into the list.prairierat wrote:I have 2 222R #4212XX XE 12/58 222RM 4191 EE 10/58
Are these by chance "transition" models. i.e. with Model 700 looking 24" barrels and sights. Not having 26" barrels with raised dovetail for the rear sight.

Again I thank everyone for their entries to our list.
I would love to find 722-257 OUU 7/49 because all those numbers would make it exactly the same age as me.
Rem725
PS - I am also still seeking a 725 short action in any calibre. Stock can be wasted as I have nice stock already.
