512X Question
Re: 512X Question
I thought someone better qualified would answer you by now but since it has not happened I will try and help you out. The 512 was introduced in 1940 as a bolt action with the tubular magazine. They were last advertised in 1962 but were sold thru 1963. Receivers were grooved for a scope in the mid 50s and about 393,000 were made. The 512X was an updated version that appeared in 1964 and was discontinued at the end of 1967, with 30,000 made. It had a 24" barrel compared to the 25' one on a 512 and the barrel was a thinner one. A 512 tapered from .80" to .62", while the 512X was a straight .62". About the only other difference was that the X had the front and rear sights that are found on the nylon guns. I own both a 511 and a 511X and can't find any reason to like one more than the other.

Re: 512X Question
There are a couple of 512's along with a couple of 512X models on Gunbroker.
The two 512X have scopes, there is one at $500 that looks quite nice, the lesser at $400 may have better blue but it has a lower grade Weaver scope with an almost blonde stock.
Give them a look, at least you will get some idea of what you might have to pay, experience says they will be cheaper at a gun show.
Behave!
