SPEEDMASTER 552 HELP
I HAVE A REMINGTON SPEEDMASTER 552 WITH THE MARKINGS BFY CAN ANYONE DATE THIS FOR ME? IT ALSO HAS A CIRCLE WITH A LINE THRU IT.
Re: SPEEDMASTER 552 HELP
.
"B F" translates to January of 1959 and January of 1985. They began production on the Model 552 in 1957, so those letters fit the production dates (it's still in production).
Around 1980, they shortened the barrels on the 552 and 572 Models to around 20" from the previous length of about 24". So, now it would depend on which barrel length you have. The older guns (typically) had longer barrels and the newer ones (typically) had shorter barrels. There were also some other cosmetic changes over the years, but without seeing the gun, I'm going by what you've given me.

There is no "F" in the month code, so we can throw out the "F Y" option.todd433 wrote:I HAVE A REMINGTON SPEEDMASTER 552 WITH THE MARKINGS BFY CAN ANYONE DATE THIS FOR ME? IT ALSO HAS A CIRCLE WITH A LINE THRU IT.

Well, actually they are. The "B F" is the date code and the "Y" is probably the inspector's (assembly) mark.todd433 wrote:Thanks for the information.
