12.7x44
Picked up a nice RB carbine in 12.7x44 anybody out there load for this puppy? I've got a 50/70 roller too with dies.. I know the two are almost the same but any help would be great... Thanks.
Re: 12.7x44
Is this a true carbine (M77 Cavalry or M85 Artillery) or a cut down sporter? Pics please.

I"ll take some pixs and post later... Busy day... It's a commerical Husqvarna cut down sporter I think.. a little rough on the outside but has a near perfect bore, was cheap and I like rollers.. Only markings I can find is a serial #8xxx left side of rec. lower tang and buttplate, and a H and 1871 on right side. No proofs or other markings.. Has a nice small carbine adj. rear sight.

You seem to have a Husqvarna M67 military musket cut down into a sporter. Very common. Generally good shooters with some work. A rule of thumb with black powder is to fill the case to a point where seating bullet to depth compresses powder about 1/8". So depending on cases and bullets, the powder charge may vary by a few grains from what I use in mine.

Couple more... Action will close on a new Dixie 50/70 empty case that has not been resized... Any thoughts on cases.. I have read that I could use Lee 50 cal REAL bullet.. I have that mold.. I tried a bullet and it should be a decent fit for this rifle..

Re: 12.7x44
I would do both chamber and bore casts with Cerrosafe, if you can get some. That will tell you what bullet diameter to use. The REAL bulets are used by some folks. I use a .510-.512 (depending on rifle) bullet ranging from 300 to 450 grains. For brass, the most economical and most common is to use cases made from .348 Winchester brass. Buffalo Arms sells these and they are less spendy than the Dixie .50-70. I have never had a problem with them.
