Hi Guys.

I found this site while searching for info on a 722 I'm picking up. Any help wouild be very much appreciated.

It's a 722 in .222 caliber. It has a dovetail rear sight and is drilled for scope mounts. I'm having a hard time figuring out the date codes. On the left side, close to the recoil lug is the number "44". About an inch forward is the letter "F". In between are marks that look like odd little lines. Sort of like a forward slash and a dash. Probably badly stamped letters or something. The serial number is 339,xxx.

Judging by what I'm seeing here, I'm putting the date around '57 or '58. But, that's just a guess.

I was thrilled to stumble onto this at a gunshop I frequent. I've always wanted a .222 and I can't wait to clean this up and get it shooting. It's in nice shape and the bore is like new.

Thank you for any info you can give me.

339xxx would fit nicely right between

3360xx 722 308 E ZZ 10/53
346xxx 721-270 X ZZ 12/53

I bet the letters are E ZZ

Thank you for the quik reply. That makes me happy, it's a little older than I thought.

I was a little worried about the number "44" stamped on it. I've read that a 4 stamping meant that it was a damaged gun that remington returned as unrepairable.

Can you tell me what the "44" signifies?

Hi everyone, this is my first visit to RSA. My post is directed at Rem 725 or any who may be interested. I have a Rem. 722 in .222 Remington. Serial# 1120xx, AWW It has what looks like a factory upgraded stock (walnut) with a checked pistol grip. Checkering pattern is similar to the checkering on the Model 725 but not as fine straight along the bottom of the pistol grip area. Diamonds are flat like those found on a Model 725. It also has the Remington factory butt plate. Factory barrel has front and rear iron sights but is 22 inches long not 24 or 26 inches. Could this early gun have been a special order? Have you heard of other 722's in .222 Rem. with a 22 inch barrel?

I also have a Remington model 725 in .280 Rem. which I absolutely love.

Thanks. -Mark

Sounds doctored. Shortened barrel. Stock could be "B" grade. Pictures?

The 44 is a probably an internal inspector/proof, etc stamp. If it has a date code attached it simply means that it was returned for whatever reason. A "3" (service section received)means it went back to the factory and was repaired.

Hello, I have a Remington 721 serial 21518, 30.06, DSS date code, September 1947. Mine has a 5 stamped on right side of barrel. Employee purchase. Has 3x9x Redfield Scope. There is no detail on wood. The 721 has the front sight, dovetailed middle and holes for a peep hole sight. Also has a brass pin above front trigger gaurd about 1/2 inch that is on both sides. Also White Line DeLuxe butt pad and a leather shoulder strap. On right side barrel is a P or R or F, its double stamped. It has a screw hole on right side where the bullet inserts and a trigger pad. Its been in the family for 50 years and has had kills at 800 to 1000 yards with 150 grain. The rifleing is like nothing I have evere seen. Thanks Craig0

Hey guys, thought I would join this forum to add this remington 722 to the list,
And maybe find out a little more about it. ser#2906xx
My dad passed away last year, and left me his Remington 722 in 257 Roberts,
with "Leupold 2x7 vari-x II" and Harris bipod. I can remember him saying. "the
dam scope cost more than the rifle". :) From what I see this rifle was made in 1953 (am I correct?) Also I would like some help identifying these markings on the barrel. Were many of these "257 Robs" made in 53?
Dad loved Remingtons.
