Model 33. No serial number?

Post by Outlaws »

I just got a Model 33 today. It doesn't have a serial number anywhere. I took the stock off to look under the barrel and still didn't find it. I found PA so I know it was made in June of 1932, but I really wanted to know how low of serial number it is since its the first year they made them.

So is the serial number hidden somewhere?

Outlaw:

Your rifle almost certainly does not have a serial #. My earlies M/33 with a # was made in August, 1934 and is in the 170,000 range. Delivery of M/33s was sceduled for Jan, 1932, but they were first made in mid-1931. My earliest was made in October, 1931. Yours May be a Type I with no grasping grooves in the fore-end, or the more common Type II with a slightly longer stock and grasping grooves.

Roy Marcot & I will have a book available late this year with details on all Remington 22 rifles. The M/33 chapter will identify and describe the two major types of the M/33 as well as the four different bolt configurations. E-mail me if you are interested.

I see. Mine is the fluted. I guess for some reason I thought that the 33 was like the 34 in that 32 was the first year and unfluted forearm came later like the 34A.

I didn't know about the bolt types. Here is a pic I used for another site because the area that locks it closed is worn. I ordered a new piece for that section fro Numrich....hopefully it will be the right bolt type. :?

You should be OK. I should have been more specific. The bolt differences are in the style of the plunger head. They all function the same. The only exception is the Type I bolt that has a small detent on the bottom. It will work in the Type II as well. The Type I bolt has a military style handle that comes straight down. The Type IIs all have a handle that is swept back.
