How to identify a rifle/carbine

Post by Jim Nauwens »

Gents:
I'm a Winchester collector and came across a rifle/carbine that I can't ID.
I can not find a model number on it. It is a slide action .32 cal carbine? in good shape. The barrel is 18.5 inches long. The books I have on Remington are not detailed enough.
Top of barrel
REMINGTON ARMS - UNION METALLIC CARTRIDGE CO.
REMINGTON WORKS, ILION NY USA PEDERSEN'S PATS
OCT 12 09 JUL 510 NOV19 12 AUG 26 13 SEP 9 13
Nothing on either side of the receiver, except .32 cartridge head.
Serial number C 62XXX
Lower tang REMINGTON UMC in a circle.

What do I have?

I'lll begin by qualifying this, I don't know much about rifles ;)

You definitely have a model 14 carbine manufactured about 1918.
