Age of Remington 25

Post by farmonemoto »

I procurred a Remington Model 25 in 32 WCF (32-30) with a low four digit number stamped on the underside of the receiver. These were only manufactured from 1922 to 1937, yet the barrel code is "ANN", indicating a March 1944 manufacture. There is also a "3" stamped after the code, and according the Blue Book indicates a service section repair. I am supposing it is possible the second "N" could have been added at that time, although that code appears to be all the same lettering style and vintage, i.e., it all appears to be aged the same, while the "3" is a bit different font and size, and appears more recent. It would also be terribly coincidental for the second "N" to just happen to make the correct barrel code for another year.
I would like to say that the second "N" was stamped in error, as only one "N" would indicate a 1922 manufacture, much more likely in this case. What do you think? Thanks.
