Okay-now I am intrigued. I have a vest pistol that has been in the family forever, Pat. dates are October 1,1861 and Nov 15,1886. On the bottom of the barrel is 3173 which I take to be the serial number. I have yet to locate the patent number and the caliber. It has a 4" barrel, 2 screws and 3 pins, walnut grips, split breech but cannot determine the finish.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
