remington Model 14 1/2
Wife opened an old safe and found grandfathers old rifle. Just figured out it is a Model 14 1/2....where can I find some information on this old guy. It looks like it has had some use, but still works.

Walt....thanks for the information....I'll check the points you describe later on tonight when I get home. The gun looks like it could stand a good cleaning...should I do that or leave it as is.
By all means, clean all dirt and rust off the rifle. Watch the bluing. Remove rust with 0000 steel wool. Don't use much pressure. 14-1/2 rifles are rare. The rifle version has a 22-1/2" barrel while the carbine is 18-1/2". The Remington Society's Journal had a fine artical about the model 14 in the 2004 2nd quater issue. They may still have copies. Thanks for the replies....this gun does have the thumbnail safety plus some sort of a screw on the side of the gun....trigger tensioner ?....but I plan on cleaning her up. If anyone would like to trade, the wife says she would like a 20 side by side or over under for quail and doves...short stock, etc. Built for a woman...she shoots right handed, but is a lefty. Any interest, please respond to robert@reveilletruck.com ...thanks.
