No1 roller value

Post by rudybolla »

I am looking at a Number 1 rolling block sporting rifle in .40-70. Decent bore (should lap out better), good finish (maybe 60% plumb blue, 20% CC), no pitting. Problem: replaced butt stock (modern w/ plastic buttplate). Flayderman says $1000 to $3000 for very good to excellent (I think). But with the replaced stock, all collectability out the window. Guy wants $1400. I offered $1000 for a shooter, but he still wants $1400. I think the $1k is a good price under circumstances. Opinions gentlemen

Your description does not sound like very good to excellent, especially considering the original butt stock is missing.

What does your book say for fair to good?

Hi David:

I just threw in the VG to excellent to put the price in perspective, not the rifle. I think overall it might rate VG, but with the stock replaced....

I bought an all original #1 Sporting rifle, in .44S, with single set trigger for $1200 at a local gun shop. Very good bore, no case colors, but smooth clean metal, @60% bluing on barrel.
I'd say the $1400 price is high without the original buttstock.
