Yup, its a first year Varmint Special as well as the first chambering of the 223 Rem in a 700. The checking patterning is commonly know as the Fleur de Lis. Your date is correct, specifically may, '67.

If you've bothered to read very many other threads on the forum, a frequently asked question is "What is it worth?".......and the answer is always the same. Values aren't given because the firearms aren't available for physical inspection (for one thing). And, they're only "worth" what someone else is willing to pay for them. You can check some of the Internet auction sites to get approximations of what other similar firearms have sold for. In my opinion, it being a "first year" .223 would add negligible additional value to it. There were probably quite a few of them made in that caliber. It was during the Vietnam war years and that was the primary rifle round being used in the M-16 rifles (and still is).

Are you interested in selling it or are you just wondering?
