Any excavated civil war remingtons out there?

Post by venicemeghunter »

I'm just curious, does anyone out there have a dug civil war remington revolver? I collect excavated and relic civil war weapons. I have 4 muskets, 4 swords and sabers, 2 carbines and 3 revolvers. 2 of the revolvers are remingtons, an 1861 Elliot and the 1863 new model. Not to many people appreciate a dug weapon. When ever people see my relic weapons they have a dumb found look and say "wow there's no wood" or "that's a lot of rust" oh well its all in the eye of the collector:) let me know. I'd enjoy talking about it.

hey bud, found a rusty pistol 5yrs ago, i got it hung it on a nail, started cleaning it to see what is was in march this yr. 1858 remington , sept 14 1858
ilion, new york, usa. new model #23098 on barrel, grip left side, trigger guard .also a visable R is stamped clearly on same side of pistol grip past the #serial number 23098. it was missing cylinder, pistol grips. rusted in plunger, that is dug in like a alabama tick."no offense to the south" . to me i kept looking at it like its my pistol, going into battle got to get it working . i got the trigger working , the action is good , hell just need a cylinder and some ammo , i could probably get me a gator or a grizzley with this pistol . thats what i'am thinking. i show the pistol to people , and i am all jazzed about it , they just kinda go , hmmm, nice gun there lee.. got to go. they just don't get it. anyway,.grizz or gator , if your wanting to get this pistol , call me 702=475-2995 i am in las vegas, nv. lee. or email me , gator or grizz. its good.

Good afternoon shadrack. Wow, you have dug up colts huh. Your absolutely right about finding any dug Remingtons. Anytime I see them there just all frames. Did you see the picture I posted of mine from Olustee Florida. I have only found another like mine from Bryces Crossroads battlefield selling for $850. That's a little to much for my wallet. Its field stripped just like mine. I I see a lot more dug colts. The Remingtons are just not out there. Well good luck and thanks so much for replying.

I hope I dont sound to stupid, but where do you go about finding this stuff. We have several little war memorial parks, but they have to be so picked over by now. Are there any little secret places that you go about looking. Old railroad tracks etc.....

shad, i don't know if you have read what i have, 1858 remington , frame is not broken . its not a parts gun . 3 matching serial numbers, underside of barrel, leftside pistol grip, stamped inside of trigger guard, dovetail front site.i have the trigger working , i can pull back a quarter and lock then pull the hammer all the way back to its firing positon.i need a clyinder pistol grips and ammo. this pistol is in good conditon for being over 150yrs old. i fould it on a demolition teardown . it was nothing but rust , the only thing that moved was the hammer, you could pull it back and let it go forward, no markings were visiable, i finally found out where to find the serial numbers , where the patent stamp was located , i got that information right here. where else right. patent is stamped top of barrel sept 14, 1858,e remington and sons illion new york usa. the pistol is the new army model .#23098. some of the history states that the new batch of remington models started at #23000. good luck .peter47
