mod. 14c

Post by gunjunkie »

I have a model 14c with a broken stock, that is checkered along with the fore grip. I am wanting to replace it, but some pictures I see show only the fore grip checkered and some have both. I am looking for another stock and would like to know if it should be checkered. Also if there is anyone out there has one that they would part with, please let me know. Great site & info..

Model 14-C grade rifles were checkered front and rear as the catalogs shows. I have seen a very few early guns (I have one around 11 thousand) that had checkering from the factory on the rear only, however that isn't a C grade. Considering the rarity of C grade guns and the fact that wood is the first thing that gets destroyed I would say the odds are better of you winning the lottery than finding original wood for one. Also there are a lot of guns floating around out there that had the rear checkered by someone other than Remington. Factory checkering is fairly easy to recognize once you have looked at a few of them.
