I have recently uncovered a Remington Type-33 rifle that has been in the family for as long as I can remember. I'm sure my dad was the original owner. I'm also certain the gun has not been fired in almost 70 years.
It is a single shot, bolt action, 22 cal. short / long, long rifle.
The stock has a few scratches, but the metal works (bolt, barrel, butt plate etc.) look as if they had been manufactured last week.
The bore is as clean and smooth as a baby's bottom.
My question regards the single thumb screw used to mount the barrel to the stock. The threads on the screw are in good condition, but I'm uneasy about the threads in the boss on the barrel. I would really like to run a bottoming tap into the boss.
The question is, what TYPE of screw threads was Remington using in 1933 ?
Not the thread size, but the GAUGE or STANDARD of the thread.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
