Chamber length on model 10

Post by guest »

Recently, I took my model 10 to a gunsmith who reported back to me that the chamber is 2 5/8".

My father has been using 2 3/4" shells in this shotgun for years. Should I attempt to locate some 2 1/2" shells and how common is this chamber length?

Have the 2 3/4 shells done any harm? (The gunsmith said that it was in really nice shape for a gun it's age.) :?:

thanks.

I have used 2 3/4" shells in my Remington steel barrel doubles with 2 5/8" chambers for years without any problem. The gun may kick a little harder but I really haven't noticed when I opened the forcing cone to 2 3/4". Using today's ammo with plastic shot wads and lower powered shells seems to cause the gun to shoot a tighter pattern. The plastic shot wad helps to prevent lead shot distortion. You can always have the forcing cone opened up to 2 3/4". It's no big deal. Jay Huber RSA
