Can I transfer my Rem 700 ADL to a Rem 700 BDL stock without modification to my action?
It's in that goofy USS stock and I can't stand the stock, so I'm exploring either HS Precision or McMillan to get the job done.
Transfer ADL to BDL without mod?
Re: Transfer ADL to BDL without mod?
I've done two or three of these.......ADL to BDL conversions.
First of all, you need the hinged floorplate/trigger guard assembly.
As far as the action, itself, no modifications needed there.
However, if the magazine box didn't come out of a BDL (and you don't have one from a BDL), the one from the ADL can be utilized, but it would probably need to be shortened. The ADL (blind) magazine box is a little bit longer than the BDL version. When I did mine, I did some careful measuring, drew/scribed the line on the magazine box with a straight-edge (leaving just a teeny bit extra to file down for exact fit) and then used a hacksaw and carefully cut it off. With a flat file, bench vice, some assembly/dis-assembly, filing, re-fitting, etc. they came together perfectly. I might also note that the rear end of the magazine box may need to be a little longer than the front end, so it may be an angular cut (front to rear) with the hacksaw......but that's determined with the measurements. I used the depth gauge on my dial caliper to take measurements.
It would definitely be easier if you can find a BDL magazine box, but it's do-able if you can't.
