Help identifying shot gun

Post by TimMarvin »

I have what I think is a model 11 12 gauge shotgun. The only makings I can find is the serial number (145974) and the patent info on the barrel. Anyone have any idea what I have?

What is the company name roll-stamped on the barrel?

Remington Arms Co. 1905 to 1911 -- This John M. Browning designed gun called the Remington Autoloading Shotgun.

Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co. 1911 to 1916 -- They began calling this John M. Browning designed gun the Model 11.

The Remington Arms Union Metallic Cartridge Co., Inc. 1916 to 1920

Remington Arms Co., Inc. 1920 onwards.

Does the serial number on the barrel match the receiver? The only serial number chronology I have, which I don't have a lot of faith in, says it would be a 1913 gun.

The barrel is stamped "Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co."
I am unable to locate any serial number on the barrel.
The only markings I have found is the serial number...

The serial number should be stamped here --

I was finally able to find the serial number on the barrel and yes they do match.
My reason for trying to identify the shotgun is it needs a replacement stock. It is cracked where the stock meets the receiver. Any suggestion where I can find a stock?

First - can it be repaired? I've repaired many a stock with little or no signs of repair. eBay usually has stocks available -- you'll just have to wait until the right one comes along. You may need to buy a matching forehand as well if matching is important.

This repair would be outside my scope of talent :) There is about 3 inches of stock missing where the stock and receiver meet. Also missing the butt plate. I have an appt with a local gunsmith today. Hopefully he can track one down. Thanks for the assistance...
