That 20-gauge Model 11 receiver with serial number 1007586 was put in work between May 3 and June 14, 1930. The Model 11A "Standard" Grade, Model 11B "Special" Grade and Model 11C "Trap" Grades had a plain receiver from their introduction until about 1937. The "Sportsman" the three-shot version of the Model 11, introduced in 1930 in 20-gauge and 1931 in 16- and 12-gauges started life with a three-bird roll stamping on their receivers --

During 1936 and 1937 the DuPont cost cutters got busy at Ilion. The roll-stamping on the "Sportsman" was reduced to one bird on each side, and "The Sportsman" roll-stamping was moved from the left side of the receiver to the breechbolt. Also, the one-bird roll-stamping was added to the Model 11 and the separate serial number sequences for the Sportsman was dropped and from then on they were serial numbered right along with the Model 11 sequences. Making a Model 11A "Standard" Grade and a Sportsman A "Standard" Grade receiver the same, the only difference being the magazine tube screwed into it and the roll-stamping on the breechbolt.
