Newly Aquired Model 11

Post by catalinathunder »

Hello,

Awesome site! Can someone help me date a Model 11 SN 50863. The shotgun probably hasn't been fired in over 30 years, is it safe to shoot after a good cleaning? recommended ammo? CA doesn't allow lead shot anymore.

Thanks,
Robert

Should be safe to shoot but you may want to have it checked by a smith to make sure. Ammo? Depends on what you want to do. Trap? Skeet? Rabbits? ???

50863 wouldn't be a Model 11. It would be a 1908 vintage Remington Autoloading Shotgun. The company name on the barrel should be Remington Arms Co.

In 1911, Marcellus Hartley Dodge combined his arms and ammunition companies as Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co. an in their 1911-12 catalog they began referring to these John M. Browning designed autoloading shotguns and the Model No. 11.

Very cool! Thanks for the info. Do you know a good company that can restore it for me?

What's wrong with it? If it's not a higher grade it's most likely not worth the effort unless there some family or other sentimental value. I'd just clean/lub it and enjoy.
