I am familier with matted barrels on model 10's,29's and 31's but recently found a 28" mod 870 barrel that is matted in the same old style. I am building a straight stocked shortened trap gun (10-T styled) for my grandson with this barrel.
I would like it if anyone has information about Remington matted top barrels, how long the option was offered etc.
Thanks, Mike

Re: Matted Top Barrels
From the introduction of the Model 870 Wingmaster in 1950 the matted top surface barrel was a standard feature of the Model 870ADL "Deluxe" Grade and the Model 870BDL "Deluxe" Grade. In the 1962 catalog Remington began offering the ADL with either a matted barrel $104.95 or a vent rib barrel $130.50. By the 1963 Remington catalog the Model 870ADL "Deluxe" Grade and the Model 870BDL "Deluxe" Grade as well as matted barrels are gone, the entry-level Model 870 got the impressed "checkering" of the new Model 1100 and came with either a plain barrel $94.95 or a vent rib barrel $119.95.
