Remington 29 shotgun
Remington 29 shotgun
Is the 29 shotgun chambered for 2 3/4" shells? Is it safe to shoot steel shot?
Stay Safe!!!

Big Fella,
I have a model 29 that is my favorite shotgun. I have 2 barrel-forend assemblies for it. One with a full choke and one with a modified choke. I have been using the modified for waterfowl hunting since the steel requirement came into effect with no ill effects on the barrel. I NEVER use any steel shot that is designated magnum. ONLY use 2 3/4 shells with standard loads. If you still are wary about using steel, another answer would be to have your gunsmith install screw-in chokes. I did this with a very old model 11 Remington (Browning auto 5) that I was leery of using steel in and it has stood up with no problems. I even have used extra full chokes in it for turkey hunting. I also had the chamber reamed to the plastic shell extended taper to reduce chamber pressures with plastic shells. I don't know if this needs to be done to the 29 or not.
