Model 31 16-gauge

Post by Lunchbox »

I grew up using my Grandfather's Remington
Model 31 16-gauge shotgun to clear out pests
like groundhogs from his farm. This was a
wonderful shotgun and is still in good shape
and fully operational. While cleaning it last night,
I decided to research it. As far as I can tell it was
made around 1931 and was part of a batch of
75,000 made, including the 20 gauges. Is this
a rare shotgun? Everything I find talks about
the 20 gauge. I would never sell it because it
has way too much sentimental value, but it would
be nice to know as much about it as possible.
The serial number is 514656 (series ran from
500,000 to 575,000) and it looks like there might
be an E after the Model 31, but that might be my
imagination. The stamp looks like it had uneven
pressure and the 1 in "31" is hardly visible, let alone
anything that might have been after it. I spent
hours looking for a "model 3" before the patent
numbers clued me in.

Anyways, thanks for any information you might have.
Time to go reassemble.
