I am trying to help my father with some information on a 700bdl 243 that he purchased used in the 1980s. I have been researching and cannot seem to piece together what the barrel stamps represent. I contacted Remington and they told me the rifle was manufactured in December of 1971 by the serial number. The barrel is stamped " U X U C". I have determined that the X and U represent 12/71. I am curious if the "C" represents the custom models that were offered then and what the first "U" represents. I would appreciate any help.
