"Silent Billy" Herr and his Remington double

Post by Drew Hause »

W.H. “Silent Billy” Heer, the "Silent Man from Kansas" and the "Cyclone Shot of the Cyclone State", a left handed shooter, was from Concordia, KS and became a Professional in 1902. He used a Remington Hammerless Double, but switched to a Remington Repeating (Pump) Shotgun prior to the 1912 GAH. He had moved to Guthrie, OK in 1909

Thanks Drew for all the wonderful history.

H.D. (Jake) Gibbs was from Union City, TN and a good friend of a dear friend of mine who hunted and shot "Town Pigeons" and crows with him in his later life.

He was part of the infamous "Gin Squad" that Nash Buckingham shot with and wrote about under a psydeneum in his early days.

Jake was a colorful character and went by a politically incorrect nickname during his heyday. A Sporting Life search using this nickname will yield you further information, but of course it shouldn't be displayed here as it might shut the site down. Lol

The gun he has in the photo in 1913 was most surely a Remington Pump as he represented them at the time and was only known to shoot "Crank-Handles".

My friend still has his crow calls and one of his C Grade Model 10's.

Great stories. I wonder how many C grade 10's were made. Can't be very many. I prize my C grade 12. Maybe the wife will bury me with it. Naw, she'll just want to sell it.
