1889 double barrel sight bead thread size?

Post by Brian in SLC »

Howdy...new member here...

Just acquired a grade 1 1889 circa 1902 with 30" barrels. Not in great shape, but, hopefully shootable.

It needs a front bead sight. Any idear the thread size? I'd like to get a nice bead for possibly shooting trap.

Appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Check the Brownells catalog or web site. Most today are 3/56 or 6/48. I believe Remington used a #5 screw thread. When it comes to odd sizes I use a under size and a drop of blue Locktite. It'll hold without drilling or tapping and if it has to come off a little heat will release it. A soldering iron works . Good luck. When you call Brownells ask what they recommend for the diameter of the bead. Old ones were quite small. You may want something a bit larger.
