Mike, sorry about the barrel length comment. I was using the info on page 132. Question is whether the info on page 158 applies to grade D only or to '94's in general. If in general, when was the 26" 12 GA barrel introduced?

From the Remington Arms Co. catalogue dated October 1894, that introduced of the Remington Hammerless Double Barrel Shotgun, they were offered in 12-gauge with 28-, 30- or 32-inch barrels and 10-gauge with 30- or 32-inch barrels. In 1897 steel barrels were added to the offerings and they introduced the 16-gauge, offered with 28-, 30- or 32-inch barrels. Barrel length offerings remained the same through the second 1901 catalogue. Beginning with the first 1902 Remington Arms Co. catalogue they offered 26-inch barrels in 12- and 16-gauges on C-Grades and higher. By the 1906 Remington Arms Co. catalogues the 32-inch 16-gauge barrels were dropped from the offerings. The barrel length offerings remained the same through the 1908 Remington Arms Co. catalogue. In the 1908-09 and the 1909 Remington Arms Co. catalogues they added 26-inch barrel 12- and 16-gauge guns to the A-quality listings, but 26-inch barrels never appear for the B-quality guns?

OK here we go, from my 1894 Small Frame:
Barrel Length 26" do not appear to be shortened.
Stampings: RT 293, LT 344, (putting the count at 57% and 67% based on 1-1/4oz #8-shot)
Serial # 131774 puts manufacture date in early 1905
Barrels are Damascus: appear to be Oxford 2 S.J. (based on pictures in Semmer's book page 273)

Current LOP is 14" front, 13" rear with 1 7/8" drop at comb, 2 7/8" drop at heel (this is with the replacement stock- an original model 1894 but not original to this gun)

That's about all I can tell you at this time.

Regards to All
Mike

Mike if you think about it what good is it to have two barrels with the same chokes
Some people myself included would like a gun to feel the same which ever barrels were on it

Good point. I was looking at it more from a hunting standpoint where the shorter barrels are easier to swing in the brush. I also shoot a lot of clays and understand what you are saying about same feel with different chokes by having the same barrel lengths.

Well Mike it appears you have another one of the mystery guns out there. Your A grade with 26" barrels was made in '05 while the A grade with shorter barrels wasn't offered in the catalogues we have on hand until '08 - '09. Too bad we don't have actual production or shipping records!!

Mike my A grade small frame 12 gauge also has 26" barrels, my gun was made in 1902, and from what you have told me your gun should be in these serial number range

1902 123914 to 127017
1903 127018 to 129349
1904 129350 to 131263
1905 131264 to 133042
1906 133043 to 134627
1907 134628 to 136292

By the way I hunt with 30" barrels and shoot a lot in bursh
