I have a couple 3 10ga guns - a Remington, Parker, and a Lefever. I shoot em all with nitro loads. You can buy RSTs or if you reload, roll your own. First cut your shells to 2 7/8, then pick any mild [ under 9000psi ] 12ga load. The 12ga load used in a 10 will have less pressure because of the larger diameter chamber for the pressure to work on. Over on the Parker web site - www.parkerguns.org, they have many tested loads for the " short 10 ". They seem to like 19grs of Red Dot and 1 1/8oz of shot. Me, getting old and not liking recoil, like 18grs and 1oz of shot. If using plastic wads, you'll need some 20ga cushion wads to put in the bottom of a 10ga plastic wad to take up space for a good crimp. Or you can shoot BP [ with fiber wads - NOT plastic ] if you don't mind the clean up after shooting [ the same day ]. Good luck and have fun shooting it. I have about 10 Damascus guns and shoot em all. It's what they were made for.
Thanks Paul, for the information. I don't have the ability to reload or I would definitely try it. Is there a place where this type of shell could be purchased or do I just need to rely on someone locally to do this for me? Being an older guy myself, I understand about the recoil.
If you go to a public range around hunting season you my find some empty 10ga shells. Cut them off to about 2 3/4 to 2 7/8 and load some up with mild 12ga data. There will be less pressure in the 10 because of the larger diameter chambers for the pressure to work against. I have a 82 Remington 10, a Parker hammerless 10, and a Lefever hammerless 10. I'm getting old so just shoot SCs. I only load 1oz in the 10, sometimes 1 1/16oz loads. I have a couple hundred loaded up. If you'd like 10 or so text message me at 810-724-5582 and for shipping I'll send them to you.
I must be loosing it. I'm surfing my usual gun forums, come here and read this one and make a second post almost the same as one I had made earlier. I mean, can't I read any more ? Anyway, I hope the OP got to shoot his gun.
