Newbe needs help

Post by mobjacker »

Just got two used Rems in a deal.

Speedmaster 522 # 1796437
Barrel has KY 51 on left side
How good is this rifle, and when was it made?

Rem 105 also marked Western Auto
No SN, letters on left side are GJ
How good is this rifle, and when was it made?
ALSO- NO MAG for this rifle, where can I get one???

Probably May of 1974 on the 552. If it's in good shape, it should be fine. I have one (1975).
I don't know anything about the 105.

I don't think that asking the same question on different sites will get anyone to concede that the 105 was made by Remington. Why do you think it's a Rem manufacture??? I'll stand corrected (it wouldn't be the first time) if you can find evidence of a Rem heritage... On RFC I believe you were told the manufacturer, but I don't remember if it was Savage or Marlin.

First- The barrel was so dirty and gunked up that when I saw the RE I lept to the conclusion it was REmington 105. The Western Auto was in much larger engraving. That led to my internet search and first posts. Only after taking it apart and doing a serious clean with 0000 steel wool and cutting oil could I read it clearly. It was a REvelation 105

I simply missread it, I was not trying to convince anyone- why would I do that?

Why post on two sites?
1>> I have been on RFC and THR for years, and only just found out about the Rem Soc when I was doing a Google search. Rem Soc site showed up on page 4 of links.
2>> I did not assume all the readers of the two sites were the same people, I thought there might be some people that only looked at one site.
3>>One person on RFC was kind enought to post a link to a site where I could buy mags, so I am very glad I did post on RFC.

And yes- on RFC I was told it was a Marlin, and I immediatly began to post on the Marlin page. The people resonded with pictures of their rifles. However- only one image is my rifle, and I still do not know if my rifle is a Marlin 80 or 780.

Sorry if my multiple postings or error in reading the name bothered you.

I have a 522 that I have put thousands of rounds through. It's a great little rifle. The takedown isn't as easy as some, but it will run for hundreds and hundreds of rounds without cleaning. When I have a bunch of kids on the line it really gets a workout. They just love it.
