I saw an early Remington 721 30-06 on an auction. Since there were no pictures of the inside the bolt rail I ask the seller for the serial number. He told me it didn't have one. I told him that the serial number was located in the receiver and if he pulled the bolt back he would see it. I also told him that the serial number should also be electro penciled on the bolt body.

He wrote me back with the serial number and that it matched the bolt. He put up new pictures and guess what he did! He stamped the serial number on the receiver where the latter 721's had them, and not even in a straight line!

Shame, I would have bid on that right because it is an early one.

2243x 30-06 E SS 10/47 (S/N inside the bolt rail [owner stamp outside on receiver], Not factory tapped on rear receiver ring)

My .244 Remington 722s

722 .244 Remington – # 3762xx – 26” barrel code XB – December 1955 – (the date 1/12/56 is etched inside the Buttplate).

722 .244 Remington – # 3837xx – 26” barrel with Code CC – April 1956 – very nice checkered stock, which I believe is original to this gun.

722 .244 Remington – # 3878xx - 26” barrel code PC – June 1956 - all original and excellent condition.

722 .244 Remington – # 3919xx – 26” barrel – NO Barrel Code but it is stamped with #51 where date code should be - (made 1956/1957 per serial number range OR 1958 per Remington, when they still answered the phone and were helpful) beautiful original and correct vintage Lyman 48 WJS rear Peep sight and ??? front sight.

Was up in Idaho last week and stopped in a local gun store. They had a Remington Model 721 in 30-06 sitting on the shelf. I could not pass it up for $240.00, it has an Herters I think, after-market stock with a really short length of pull, I'm going to look for a factory stock to put back on the rifle. The stock looks to have been cut down for a Jr. shooter. The bolt and follower are both jeweled which is interesting. The blue is near 100% and the bore is fantastic.

Hi! I am needing help identifying a 722 with serial number 370426. It is a .222 REM. Am I identifying it properly as a 1955 manufacturer date?

1955 yes. Your 370426 is between
3699xx 722-244 E B 10/55
371xxx 721-3006 D B 9/55

The B indicates 1955. The letter before B indicates month.
Your should have a E or D as in EB or DB.
These letters are on the left side in the chamber area.

I call this one my "rescue rifle" it looks like whoever owned it before left it in the corner of their bedroom closet and let it rust up. It needs a good cleaning and de-rust treatment to get it in working order but everything is there, headspaces correctly, and has an excellent bore.

Hre are the specifics for the data listing:
