FBI Remington M8?

Post by beleg2 »

Im doing a reserch on M14 and M8 rifles and their ammo.
Im looking for information about a reduced .30 Rem. load for the FBI and a Model 8 rifle for this load.
I have read some but I can not find the info again.
Thanks

It was the Model 81 which was used by the FBI. The Model 8 was used by the Division of Investigation (predecessor to the FBI).

From July to October of 1938 Remington experimented with a reduced velocity version of the .30 Remington using a 160 grain metal case bullet loaded to the same ballistics as the .351 Winchester (180 grain bullet at 1861 f.p.s., generating 1385 ft.lbs. muzzle energy). An unspecified quantity of cartridges were prepared for testing and it was found that with such a reduced loading the standard rifle would fail to lock open after firing the last shot. As a solution, the standard buffer spring for the .30 was replaced with one for the .25, and the the four rifles used in the experiment functioned correctly. Apparently, after October of 1938 the reduced loading project was shelved.
