Original or Not?

Post by Gamemaster32 »

Does anyone readily know if a Model 81 in .35 Rem could've left the factory with a black rubber recoil pad & white spacer?

Gamey!

I think you probably know there is not a definitive answer here but anything is possible.
There are only two (2) real possibilities and those are "special order" or "employee purchase". It would be a special order or employee with bad taste so "my" opinion is that it did not leave the factory in that configuration.

I did take some time to check some of my old Remington catalogs, could find nothing that would indicate that was a factory option. the last catalog that shows factory options is from January 1952.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for your prompt response Jim! My LGS got one in today on consignment that looks very nice in the photos...except for that recoil pad. I didn't think it looked original, and will not waste time following this up.

I learned long ago not to procrastinate when a potentially good gun comes along, as they go quickly.

Again, your expertise is much appreciated.
