Engraved Model 14, ca. 1918

Post by Rimfirerifle »

Santa was good to me. Looking for any additional information on this cal. 35 Remington model 14 rifle. (I am a .35 caliber addict!). Obviously factory engraved, Stock has a silver oval, stock head has some assembly / repair markings (maybe a 5 for the grade of wood?) and the last 3 digits of serial number. The rifle doesn’t conform exactly to the rather scarce information that I have been able to find on graded guns of this model. E grade? F grade? Also factory repair codes inside the receiver , 1926? I look forward to any comments. Happy holidays to you all.
Aaron

Looks like the Model 14F "Premier" Grade as pictured in the 1915-16 Remington Arms - Union Metallic Cartridge Co. catalog. Normally the serial number is stamped in the head of the stock and on a high grade gun like this possibly the mark of the stock maker who made the stock.

John Taylor here 54bullseye on the forum. I have what I believe is a 14 E-grade from 1913. It has like yours a deer on one side and a bear on the other. It also has the silver oval on bottom of stock which I believe is a E-grade feature. The gold inlay is used on the F-grades. Mine has the older horn type pistol grip cap the same as the 1913 D-grade I posted.
The stock is marked on the neck where it joins the receiver with serial number # 11644. It is also marked just above the trigger and on the rear of the bottom plate.

I would say yours is an E-grade for sure. Beautiful gun you have !!! Below are some pictures of mine. I see you have only one post so I hope your still around to respond !! If you do respond please let us know the serial number of your gun.

Thanks for looking !!! John Taylor
