Hello, new member here, I have recovered this Remington model 30? from a family shed but can't seem to set a manufacture date based on the information on this site? The markings on the rifle indicate 1926 but the serial number is not working? its too low to show up in the list of numbers by year.
Here are pictures, please let me know if you need more detail? the front site (which would not focus) says marble? looks like the rear site is missing a part?
"edit" missed one picture,
Thanks in advance
Rob

Re: Help dating a family heirloom??
I'm seeing Nov, 1930 in the "Serial Numbers by date (factory record book)" above the letter codes on the dating page
Re: Help dating a family heirloom??
Hello and thanks for taking the time to respond,
I was going by this "Serial Numbers by date (factory record book)" and using the SN# it comes up as being made between July 17 - 24th 1931 (page # 85 of the scanned document) but based on the letters L T on the left side of the barrel it should be Feb 1926, also would units made after 1926 not be marked as an Express model?
I assume the link you mentioned is for paying members and must be different then what I have been accessing?
Through some other web links and reading, this rifle seems to fall into the pre-Express models?

Re: Help dating a family heirloom??
We're looking at the same page. I took the 8 for a 3 so you are correct. I'm not privy to the barrel letters as did not see them. Not overly versed on the 30s myself. Just wasn't sure you saw the book listing.
Re: Help dating a family heirloom??
Well, I wait for someone who is familiar with these incredible rifles to weigh in, doesn't really matter to me, but it would be nice to know the history of this rifle? and thanks again for your interest and comments,
Cheers

Hi Eeyore,
Is it possible that the barrel was replaced? Maybe original bbl damaged, and gunsmith had a take off bbl in his shop? Just a wild guess.
Good luck in your search,
Daniel
