Info on Rem. 700

Post by No Deer »

I have a Remington 700 .223 cal. and am curious about it. It has a KO on the left side, followed by an upside down V. The s/n is 6876xxx, has a 26(maybe 25, didn't write it down) inch barrel and a synthetic stock. Very accurate riffle.

What I am curious about is the date of manufacture, and anything else someone may care to add.

Thank you in advance.

Taking some wild guesses.........with little information to go on.
You apparently aren't the original owner of this rifle.
"K O" would indicate May of 1977 or 1994. However, a 1977 serial number SHOULD have had an "A" prefix serial number letter code and a 1994 serial number SHOULD have had a "C" or "D" preceding letter code.
A synthetic stock would indicate that if it's a 1977 build, it was probably restocked at some point. If it's a 1994, could be either way. BUT.....if it's a 1994, it WOULD have a serial number letter prefix.
The serial numbers beginning with 6 million were initiated in about 1969 or 1970.......then, around 1975 the letter prefixes were added with "A" then around 1980 a "B" and then around 1985 a "C" prefix.
These rules aren't hard and fast as some variations can always be found or reported.

Thank you for the reply. Yes, I am not the original owner. I neglected to include the "C" in front of the s/n.

Thanks again for the info.
