Remington 12 feeding problem

Post by GlenH »

Hey all-

I’m trying to get my dad’s model 12 back to shooting condition. It isn’t pretty but it was his first rifle, given to him by his grandpa on his 12th birthday. He passed away at age 85 a few years ago. So it means a lot to me.

I fixed one problem - it was missing a firing pin spring and firing pin guide. The next problem is that when I rack it, 90% of the time the bolt locks up hard about halfway open. It also often locks in exactly the same place when closing it. This only happens when a shell is in the carrier. When I rack it empty it works fine. Well, I say that; when working the action empty it’s fairly sticky but it doesn’t actually lock in place.

Can anyone give me any suggestions?
