Hi maybe you guys can help me. I have A Remington 141 with a 19 inch barrel. It seems like a carbine to me and I was selling it at a gun show. People who were more knowledgeable than me about these things, came by and told me it was not a carbine. They say that because the front sight ramp is not milled into the barrel, it is not a carbine. they tell me that it has been cut off and made to appear as a carbine. I argue that the bluing looks like factory and does not show tell tale signs of a re-bluing job. Also if the barrel was cut It was really well done, the crown is a perfect Remington crown.
Serial number is 78307 and date code is wwR I believe 1950. What do you guys think.
Thank you in advance
Mitch
141 carbine or not.
Re: 141 carbine or not.
All true 141 carbines were made using Model 14 18-1/2" carbine barrels.
99% of these were made under serial 35,000 although I have one with a 71xxx serial it appears to have been sent to the factory to have the Model 14 carbine barrel installed.
Without seeing a picture it would seem that yours is simply a cut down
rifle barrel, not uncommon at all, and if done properly by a competent gunsmith will look like factory work.................it isn't.
