Remington 760 35 rem carbine
Remington 760 35 rem carbine
Hello, I purchased this very peculiar remington a couple months ago and was wondering if anyone could help me get some documentation for it because remington was not much help. This is what i am assuming is most likely a one of one configuration, built for Roland H Coleman in 1972. Only 456 remington 760 carbines in 35 rem were produced and ended in 1967. This one im sure was not counted towards that number. This one was special ordered for Mr. Coleman in 1972 and build in a "basketweave" BDL left handed configuration. Any help on lettering the gun or more information on it would be helpful, it also has a gold plate embedded in the stock with his initials engraved into which I am assuming was done at the custom shop. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

I think you assume too much.
And, if Remington can't provide documentation on it, how in the heck are we supposed to?
I don't know if this will help, but in case you haven't read it.......

Yes, I have read that article and own the collectors book by Eugene Myszkowski. I was just reaching out on here to see if someone knew something that I didn't already know. I know exactly what this gun is I was just hoping someone could point in the right direction on documentation.

Its a cool rifle what ever the history! Enjoy it.
Re: Remington 760 35 rem carbine
R. H. Coleman was President of Remington from 1963 to 1974. If this was his personal rifle it was prepped and polished in the Custom Shop for a very smooth action. It appears to have the stepped receiver. He, as a Remington executive, had the Custom Shop in 1953 engrave a Model 32, serial number 4617 and then in 1962 the same Model 32 was upgraded with gold inlays. In 1966 his son has a Model 32, serial number 1865 engraved in the Custom Shop.
It was not unusual for Remington executives and Board members to have custom made arms. There is a group of Model 3200s engraved for Remington Board members. In addition Remington did a number of non-revenue engraved presentation and retirement firearms over the years.
It would be interesting if you can get the provenance for the carbine.

I don't check on here often and just saw your post, thank you very much for the interesting history on Roland Coleman! I talked to Remington who confirmed the serial number to be linked to him but they would not give me any other information unfortunately. The action is very smooth!
