Model 8/81? Remington

Post by Danny58 »

I have a " Barn find " what appears to be a model 8 or 81? It has several oddities and inconsistencies. so Im looking for a RS Member with the knowledge and the time to help evaluate and date exactly what I found. Thanks

Danny, Happy to assist. I`m sure there are some experts on the 8/81`s here that will help also. Pictures of your find always best with details of any stampings serial #`s ,caliber designation, etc. Left side of receiver will give the most information so a clear photo of it for sure. You might also view this website and find information on your rifle :thegreatmodel8.remingtonsociety.com Look forward to seeing your 'barnfind'.

I researched through the ( Great Model 8's ) and found the answers. Its an 8 with a pistol grip stock, checkered and a pistol grip cap. I'm in the process of restoring it. can show the before.

there is no designation on the receiver. no barrel codes..just a serial number on the under side dating it next to last rifle produced in 1920. Under the barrel crust there is a model 8 and the usual roll mark. also remington roll mark on the top tang.

The stripped stock displays exceptional figuring, with checkering and pistol grip cap. I cant help but think its an above standard grade. Today you never get walnut like this on an off the rack rifle.
