Remington 700bdl Barrel Stamps

Post by wdon »

I am trying to help my father with some information on a 700 bdl 243 rifle he purchased used in the early 1980s. the barrel is stamped "UXUC". I contacted Remington and they said that the gun was manufactured in late 1971 (X=Dec, U=1971) but could not give me any information what the U stamped at the beginning or the C at the end stood for. Could anyone give me some clues? He is trying to get an idea what this rifle might be worth.

If those are the only characters on the LHS of the barrel, the first U is the stamp of the final inspector and the C is the stamp of the assembler.
