FOUND MY REMINGTON MODEL 7615 POLICE CARBINE, FINALLY!!

Post by satx78247 »

friends,

I've looked & looked for a Model 7615 Police carbine for well over 2 years now & found 2 kinds for sale:
1. OVER-PRICED in the 700.oo to over 800.oo category
AND/OR
2. Beat to pieces.
(SOME of the "beat-up" carbines were also OVER-priced. - One 7615 from a left coast PD was offered to me for 850.oo & it looked like "50 miles of bad Texas road".)

This afternoon, 20MAY17, I found one in MINT condition at an Austin, TX police supplier that LOOKS unissued (seems to have fired only a few times) & at a decent price, too.
(This 7615 was once the property of Temple (TX) PD.)

The serial number is: B85340xx. - Can any of our members tell me the date of manufacture??

Note: I now have a Model 760/7600 in every factory caliber except .257 Roberts & 7x57 Mauser (never sold in the USA). - I also have a Model 760 in 9.3x62 Mauser & am considering having JES remodel an "extra" .30-06 rifle into a .400 Brown-Whelen Improved for HEAVY game.

YEP, I'm am still looking for the .257 for my collection of pump-rifles.

It's going to be date coded on the barrel when you get it.
With a B prefix I believe that's the first 1/2 of the 80's.

admin,

I guess that I wasn't clear. = I actually bought the little carbine & CANNOT read the barrel code, even under a strong light. - I'm going to try to find a good magnifying glass.
(It's not well-stamped.)

Finally called the factory to see if they happened to still have an original magazine (NOPE, darn it. = All gone.) & was told that that 7615 was manufactured in Jul 2005.

THANKS for the response. - Appreciated.

Congratulations and good luck dating it. I've been looking for the 7615 camo model since they were first introduced. I don't believe many of them were made.
Never mind the mule, just load the wagon.

Dixiejack,

You're 100% CORRECT = The 7615 Police, in all of the variations, are/were few & far between. - I'm told that they were "the biggest flop" that Remington has made in a long time as:
1. The carbines were too expensive for what they were
(The 7615 cost about 100.oo MORE than an AR15, when new.)
and
2. Remington didn't do a good job of merchandizing them to the police/security companies & made little effort to sell the carbines to sportsmen
- As a result, I'm told that the 7615 was only made for about 14 months & most of those sold out SLOWLY.
(I've been told that the company still had some new carbines in 1988-89.)

Wouldn't you know it: NOW any number of people want to buy one, as "collector's items".
(I looked for over 2 years to find the MINT one that I found in Austin at a police equipment distributor.)

NOTE: I've been told that a VERY FEW (like 150 or less) were made for a foreign police contract, in .243. - IF that's FACT, I'd sure like to find one!!!

To All,

As I now have a lady forever, who is <90# & 60" tall, she took one look at the 7615 & announced, "This is just MY size. Honey, you have all those other pumps, like a dozen or so, so you won't even miss this one." - KNOWING that tone of voice, I said, "OK."
(There 2 ways to win an argument with your wife.- NEITHER WORKS.)

Btw, Darla is DEADLY with the carbine out to beyond 200M.

Thus, I'm looking for another 7615 in (hopefully) as good of condition for the collection.
