model 788 in 30-30 value?
I have a model 788 30-30 that I got in the early to mid 80's as Christmas gift when I was a young teenager. No scope, just standard iron sights. Bolt action with magazine(3). What is a ballpark value on this gun. I have a friend that says he is interested in buying it, but I have no clue what it is worth.

Values aren't given on the forum. Too many factors including not being able to inspect the firearms.
Best option is to check out some of the firearm auction websites and look for similar items that are for sale or have sold.

Re: model 788 in 30-30 value?
Thanks Wulfman,
I tried to search for another 788 in 30-30 for sale but I didn't see any for sale. Still, I understand the hesitation to give a value on something you have not seen. I don't collect guns, and just really do not have a clue what a fair price is for the gun. I saw several 788 models in other calibers, but not in 30-30. Just hard to find much info on them. Do you have any other suggestions of where to look for values on this gun? I don't think it is an early model. I think it may have been made in 1984 if I am reading the stamp on the barrel right.

Well, let's start here:
http://www.remington.com/en/products/ar ... l-788.aspx
According to Remington's history website link, the 788 was chambered for the 30-30 from 1967 till 1970. Now that you know what years they chambered it for that caliber, you should be able to decipher the date code from this link:

Now, if you do a Google search on this, you'll see some links that may help you out with some of your other questions.
