Remington 25/25A

Post by RemRB »

I know little about a Model 25/25A in .32-20 but am curious about one. What little I can find in writings indicates the barrel length was 24 inch. This one is advertised as 22 inch. Did Remington offer a 22 inch in this model 32-20? Thanks again for your expertise.

Hello, No Remington did not offer the model 25 with a 22" barrel. only 24" and 17.79 inches, sold as 18"... if its not one of these lengths its been cut down..though im thinking maybe it was not measured to the rite place on the gun & it really is 24".. if it has the original front sight then i should think its not been cut..ive owned a number of these little rifles and have always found the 32-20 a little more accurate then the 25-20..my remington model 25 in 32-20 is my all time favorite gun...if you have a chance to buy one in good shape i say go for it.. you will be happy you did..

I've found that unless you put a measure against the barrel, they look to be 22 inches rather than the 24 they were from the factory. Eying one in 25 myself!

Remington did increase the barrel length of the Model 25 carbine to 18 and one half inches in 1934 to comply with legislation. The one pictured on page 46 of my book on Model 14 and 141s is that long . It is date coded OE, July 1936.

Thanks much gentlemen, I'm passing on this one as it is a cut barrel. The photo of it shows the magazine to be nearly the same length as the barrel. Every 24 inch Model 25 I'm been able to see shows the magazine end to be inches short of the barrel end.

FWIW, I have a couple of 25s that have been cut so that the barrel and magazine are the same length. They are very handy in that configuration. If forced to sell my rifles, the full length rifles would go first. But then I am a shooter first and a collector second.
