222 REM MAG???????

Post by rgr4hire »

I have recently inherited a model 700 in 222 Rem Mag caliber; does anyone know how many were made? I am unfamiliar with the caliber and it's hard for me to get.

Acording to the Blue Book the only 700 that was chambered for 222 mag was the early 700 ADL, no BDL's. If it's the carbine the book says to add 50% to the value. As to when it was made, it looks like pre '91.

Yeah it's a 63 ADL with a 24" barrel, and it's in great shape. I kust haven't been able to find out how rare they are.

Usually if the blue book doesn't add a premium (10%, 15% or whatever), for the particular caliber, which it doesn't, then the gun in question isn't that rare. You might contact Remington. There is an "ask a question" page on their site.

222 Rem Mag

Actually the Blue Book does assign an additional 50% to the value for 222 Rem Mag, but what it doesn't say or mention are the production numbers for specific calibers.

You might want to look on the home page under Remington Books. There you will find a book listed by John Lacy titled "The Remington 700." John put together the best book available on the 700, and a quick check indicates it has more information than anyone needs about the 222 Remington Mag. So go get a copy and answer all your questions. The Blue Book has serious limitations when it comes to details. Half the fun of doing research is looking for the answers yourself. So have some fun and look for the answers. That is what RSA is all about.

PS: Page 196 has the production numbers you want.

rgr4hire,
If you reread my post you will see that I said if the rifle was a CARBINE there is a 50% premium (only in 222 mag and 280 though). A rifle with a 24" barrel is the same value as any other cal.
