Would like info on Model 24

Post by Guntrader »

I picked up a Remington Model 24 at a gun show last week and am trying to find more information about it.
The Barrel is marked "Model 24", "22 short-lesmoke or smokeless powder", a "PN" date code on the left side, proof marks on both sides, and an upside down "Remington" on the right side.
It is chambered for .22 Short, SN#119xx under barrel, matching SN #on front of receiver with a "T" slightly above and to the left of SN#. There are no markings on the sides of the receiver, indicating an early model?
The last 3 of the serial number are also on the trigger guard assembly.
The buttplate is marked "ELK", as is the wood underneath followed by a number, not matching the SN#.

Condition is 98%+, gold bead front sight, the wood is hand checkered, and there is an ivory heart inlayed in the for-end.

1) I checked online and the PN code is listed as 1922 production.
2) All of the markings are crisp, doesn't look like it was refinished. The interior had a tiny amount of rust, looks like the exterior was oiled, but the interior left alone for the past 89 years.
3) The for-end and pistol grip are checkered. Does this mean it's a 24C or did someone hand checker a 24 standard? Would a 24C have that inscribed on the barrel?

I have seen a bunch of these for sale, but this is the first one I have seen in this condition and with a checkered stock.
I haven't been able to see what a 24C looks like, other than the catalog description of checkered wood and a gold bead.

Any help would be appreciated.

this list would put it at June 1966, it looks too new to be a 1922 and too old to be a 1993 however it may be a 1993
to make this list more accurate, find out what years that particular model was made

According to this link it was manufactured June, 1922.

They were produced from 1922-1935, when it was replaced by the 241.

No problem. I paid a whopping $150 for her. :) :)
Not a lot of info available. I did some more research and the SN is appropriate for 1922.
What I still haven't find out is if it's a standard grade that someone checkered at home, or a factory 24C Special Grade.
Can't find a pic of a special grade anywhere.
