#1 Rolling Block Sporting Rifle

Post by marlinman93 »

I recently picked up this #1 Sporter. The caliber is .44S (.44-77 Sharps) and it has the extra heavy full octagon 32" barrel, and single set trigger. Serial number is 74xx.
I have three questions:
The top tang is unmarked, and no tang sight holes. Were early rollers mostly unmarked? This all looks untouched, but since I've not seen a Sporter before, I was puzzled.
Second, any idea what year this serial number would indicate. I know they were made from 1869-@1889, but did they start a 1 or somewhere higher?
Finally, are there any factory records on old Remingtons made?

Thanks!
