Tinned or nickel platted rolling block rifles

Post by 171evergreenfkl »

I have posted information on the above topic earlier this year, but since my photographic expertise has improved and the topic re-occurs, and I find myself with time on my hands, the below has been added. Attached are photographs of a N.G.N.Y. style nickel platted presentation rolling block rifle chambered in 45-70 rather than 50-70. It's presentation was detailed in an article which appeared in The Buffalo Courier on May 1,1883. (see below) It was presented by General Adrian Root, former commander of the 94th. regt. in the civil war, to Srgt. Daniel Milley. As the article details, the rifle was re-worked by gunsmith Salem LeValley ,nickel platted by Buffalo Dental and silver plates engraved by Brinkworth attached. NOTE; TNE RIFLE DID NOT LEAVE THE REMINGTON FACTORY WITH A NICKLE PLATE FINISH. I have also attached photographs of lithographed sheet music relating to the Buffalo City Guard, one bearing an image of General Root in the City Guard uniform. Srgt. Milley was a leather worker by trade and was a "Wheelman" (amateur bike racer) in his spare time. As you can see from the attached photo below this activity would have required a generous supply of testicular fortitude.
