HELP with RIFLE ID

Hey all. New to this site. Dad passed this gun down to me. I know it's a Remington, but can you help with specific identification? The writing on the barrel looks arabic to me. Help?

It's a Egyptian rolling block rifle, most of them encountered today are 3-band rifles that have about a 36" barrel on them. Yours maybe a 3-band rifle that was cut down to 2-band. There should be a long bayonet lug on the right side of the barrel. What is the length of the barrel on this gun?

In this photo you can see the spacing between the barrel bands is greater then the spacing on your rifle. They did make some 2-band Musketoon rifles with 28 inch barrels that had the barrel bands closer together like your rifle.

Do any of these new photos help Matt? Are you still thinking Egyptian Remington? And if so, were these Remington rifles made specifically for the Egyptian Army?

Thanks for the up dated photos of the rifle. It is the Egyptian Musketoon Rifle, in George Layman's book on Military Rolling Block Rifles of the World, he has a photo of a 2-band rifle like yours with a 28 inch barrel. I have see some 2-band Egyptian rifles with approximately 28 and 31 inch barrels. Your rifle is from the 2nd contract that had the patent date ending with the date 1874 stamped on the upper tang of the rifle. These rifles were made in the mid to late 1870's. The 1st contract rifles had the last patent date ending in 1868. The 1st contract rifles had a side extractor and the 2nd contract models were made with the rotatory extractor. These rifles were made for the Egyptian Army and were chambered in .43 Egyptian cartridge.

Here is a photo of a Musketoon/Carbine that is made with an approximate 22 or 23 inch barrel that have a carbine front sight and a rifle rear sight. The top rifle/carbine in the photo is chambered in 50-70 and the bottom gun is chambered in .43 Egyptian.
