ROLLING BLOCK BREECHBLOCK FACE

Post by VWMAN »

In regards to military rollers, some have flat faces, some are convex. Does anyone know why there is a difference? And does it indicate possible year of manufacture?

Thanks;

The flat breechblock was introduced for Remington manufactured rifles in about 1870. European made rifles, Swedish for instance, continued with concave breechblocks after this date.

I don't know the reason for the change but it does require one less engineering procedure.
